We didn't bring Christmas stocking. At the end of our packing in August, I was ruthlessly slashing weight to get us under the airline limit. And besides, we could be traditional and hang up our real stockings.
As December approached, however, I became more dubious about how that was going to actually work. How do you hang up socks? And what if they're ankle socks?
Our friend at church overheard some worried muttering about Christmas stocking and she went through her personal fabric stock, picked out fabric for each of our kids (incidentally demonstrating remarkable insight into their personalities and interests), and offered to let me use her sewing machine. Now our stocking garland is on our banister, just waiting for Santa to stop by.
