School friends

Isaac's second day of school was even better than the first. We got to the schoolyard a few minutes early and stood around awkwardly, not sure what to do with ourselves.

“I’m looking for people from my class,” Isaac told me. “Especially the boys who kept smiling at me yesterday.” He scanned the children running around the playground. “There’s one!”

He pointed at a boy who was, at that moment, talking earnestly to his father. Then we the boy walked over to Isaac and said, in English (coached by his father, I suspect), “Hello. Do you want to play hide and seek with us?” Of course, Isaac did.

Isaac told me later that he and the boy did a lot of things together during the day, “And then I realized I didn’t even know his name, so I asked him.” Blessings on a boy who is friendly to strangers and on the girl who gave Isaac half of her snacktime cookie, not because he was without a snack but just to be nice.

I think he's going to be the coolest kid in the class
