Kindergarten Shoes

It is rude to wear shoes inside a house in Bosnia. You remove your shoes at the front door.

At kindergarten, you must remove your shoes, too. Each child is required to bring a pair of slippers to wear inside the classroom. One of our first great shopping successes after we got here was figuring out where to buy slippers (not in shoe stores, in case you were wondering--people were surprised I thought I should look there!).

When they arrive at school, the children hang up their coats, take off their shoes, and put on their slippers.

And then the shoes just wait in a patient line in the line outside the classroom until it's time to go home.
